Russia's dream of AI power
Putin wants Russia not to lag behind in the development of artificial intelligence, especially in the face of the dominance of China and the US. However, Russia is facing difficulties due to the war in Ukraine, leading to the departure of specialists and the imposition of sanctions limiting Russia's access to modern technologies. That's why Putin plans to sign an ambitious new AI strategy focusing on generative artificial intelligence research, legal changes and international cooperation so as not to be left behind.
Yeah, sure. Russia's artificial intelligence ambitions seem as realistic as a flying bear.
Safety above all
More and more restrictions are being imposed on artificial intelligence due to security issues. Some experts suggest that these restrictions may be too stringent and therefore limit the potential of these models. Interestingly, there are AI models that are not subject to censorship - they are equal and more equal.
However, in the pursuit of keeping us safe at all costs, it is also worth remembering that creativity and innovation often flourish in environments where there is greater freedom of action. Let's think about what we care about more.
Pentagon is betting big on AI
The Pentagon is developing artificial intelligence initiatives, including Project Replicator, which aims to introduce thousands of autonomous vehicles by 2026. AI is used for a variety of tasks including monitoring, predictive maintenance, monitoring and support of military operations. However, there are concerns about the control and ethical use of autonomous weapons, especially in drone swarms. The Pentagon faces challenges adapting to advances in AI and also using the technology to track space threats, improve maintenance of military equipment and increase soldier effectiveness.
Let's ask ourselves: are we really ready for such autonomy? Maybe it would be better to focus on controlled and responsible solutions, instead of creating an army of independent machines?
