Poverty according to AI

Researchers at Lund and Halmstad Universities used a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN), to analyze satellite images and identify poverty indicators. The AI model, trained on ImageNet data and adjusted with satellite images, proved more effective in assessing poverty than human analysis. By modifying the images, the researchers discovered features associated by AI with wealth, such as road density.

It's amazing how artificial intelligence can better assess poverty from space than some people can understand it on the ground.
