The Stanford Internet Observatory, in cooperation with the Canadian Center for Child Protection and other organizations, has identified more than 3,200 such abuses. Researchers are calling for drastic measures, such as deleting or cleaning datasets and removing some AI tools from public access, to prevent further abuse. Companies such as Stability AI and OpenAI are taking steps to curb abuse by implementing filters and refusing to process requests for sexual content involving minors.

Surprisingly, such things are still happening these days. It's worth considering whether, in the pursuit of modernity, we are forgetting basic safety principles.

Patents not for AI

The United Kingdom has ruled that artificial intelligence systems cannot be considered patent inventors. The decision came in the case of British scientist Stephen Thaler, who created an AI called DABUS. Thaler wanted to patent two inventions created by DABUS: a food container that uses fractal geometry to heat quickly, and a light system to attract attention in emergency situations. His original 2018 patent application was rejected by the UK Intellectual Property Office on the grounds that DABUS is not human. Thaler appealed to the UK Supreme Court, but the court upheld the ruling, saying that only humans can be inventors under current law.

It will be interesting to see if AI will ever be able to challenge such a court decision.
